What to do when in Bardufoss

Are you planning a summer vacation on the road?
Enjoy a few days in the Bardufoss region where fantastic experiences awaits: midnight sun, geo hiking, salmon fishing, wolves and bears in Polar Park, beautiful Senja and a whole lot more. All within one hour’s drive from the charming Rundhaug Gjestegård, a historical hotel located on the riverside of Målselva river. The guesthouse celebrates 115 years this year, and is a quaint experience in itself.

In the afternoon you can enjoy local dishes served in our own restaurant – in a safe way. 

Visit Polar Park

Drive an hour with your own car to Polar Park – the northernmost animal park in the world! It is the home of the largest predators in the north, like bears, lynx’ and wolves, and you can also meet the mighty moose. You can even order a wolves’ kiss! Read more about Polar Park here.

Back at Rundhaug Gjestegård you will once again be served dishes from our local menu, and in the night you can enjoy even more local activities! Remember: it’s bright all night!

Sightseeing on Senja

Drive about 40 minutes to spectacular Senja, our «little Lofoten». Take one of the Kjør 40 minutter til fantastiske Senja, vårt «lille-Lofoten». Drive one of the National Scenic Routes from Gryllefjord to Botnhamn, preferably stopping by Mefjordvær og Husøya. This route is 102 km long (road 86/862). Steep mountains and crystal clear fjords, with views ready to take your breath away.

Activity and departure

After breadfast at Rundhaug Gjestegård, you can choose a local activity, then travel on to the capital of Norther Norway: Tromsø. The drive from Rundhaug Gjestegård takes approx. 2 hours. Enjoy the polar city with its small, cozy cafées, the Arctic Cathedral, Polaria, the Cable Car, Magic ice, and more. And not least a buzzing nightlife.

Bardufoss is located along the E6, and is thus easily available and a natural stopover when driving both north and south. Take the Hurtigruten to Tromsø or Finnsnes, or fly to Bardufoss Airport which is located only 20 minutes from Rundhaug Gjestegård. You can also fly to Tromsø (approx. 2 hours drive from Rundhaug Gjestegård) or to Evenes (approx. 1.5 hours drive from Rundhaug Gjestegård).

Renting a car is an easy and fun way to experience the beautiful nature of Northern Norway. The roads are good and the landscape is impressive! Bardufoss has a great selection of rental cars, and we will gladly help you to rent a car.
